Understanding canine IBD
IBD or Inflammatory Bowel Disease is described as the chronic irritation of the digestive tract in dogs.
Your pup may have a history of diarrhea, vomiting, and even poor appetite. There is no one specific cause of canine IBD.
Though, it is believed that there are several risk factors that can contribute to this condition; in most cases, these are the possible causes:
🔸 parasitic or bacterial infection (e.g., Salmonella, E. coli, or Giardia)
🔸 reaction to a specific protein in their diet
IBD is usually diagnosed by fecal examinations, blood testing, and imaging of the intestines by either X-ray or ultrasound. Tissue biopsies may also be needed to confirm a diagnosis.
How do you treat your pup if they are suffering from IBD?
There is no definitive cure for IBD, but it can be treated. Depending on the severity of the disease, antibiotics might be prescribed as well as anti-inflammatory drugs such as corticosteroids.
A diet rich in fiber will also help your furry friend combat this syndrome.
If you have any concerns about your pup's health always consult your veterinarian
