Is your kitty destroying your furniture?

Cats scratch, it’s a simple fact and it’s part of who they are. Since cats are hunters by nature, scratching is actually a way of sharpening their claws. Unfortunately, that’s bad news for your furniture, drapes, and carpets!

So how do you get this destructive behavior under control?

1. VARIETY OF SCRATCHING POSTS

Make sure they are sturdy and won’t collapse as your kitten starts pulling on it as she scratches!

2. NO SCRATCH PRODUCTS

Discourage inappropriate scratching, this can be done by covering your cat’s favorite couch or by trying a no scratch product such as Mighty Petz No Scratch Spray for Cats.

3. CLIP YOUR CAT'S NAILS REGULARLY

This will help reduce the force of their scratch and minimize damage to your furniture.

4. DO NOT...

Do not hold your cat by the scratching post and force her to drag her claws on it. This could frighten your kitty and teach her to avoid the scratching post altogether.

Finally, remember to be patient with your cat and that this behavior is in their nature so stopping it can take a little bit of time and training.
